Highlights from the Sirsak x EduALL Paper Competition
From late February to early May, Sirsak joined forces with EduALL to launch a nationwide paper competition: “Waste Banks as Circular Economy Enablers.” The goal? To spark fresh ideas from high school and undergraduate students across Indonesia on how to tackle waste through sustainable, community-driven solutions.
Rooted in the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 8, 11, 12, and 17, this competition encouraged students to address real-world issues—like waste management, responsible consumption, and economic inclusion—while imagining the role of waste banks in Indonesia’s circular economy future.
What made this competition truly special was the support of experienced mentors and sustainability experts who served as judges. Their feedback and mentorship went far beyond technical guidance—they inspired students to think boldly, act responsibly, and lead with purpose.
After weeks of mentoring and research, the competition culminated in a final presentation day where students defended their ideas. We’re proud to announce the three finalists whose papers truly stood out:
1st Place, Karen Evalea
One Man’s Trash is Another Man’s Treasure: How Waste Banks Play a Role in Achieving Economic Inclusion and Transitioning to Green Doughnut Economics
2nd Place, Kimberley Clarissa
The Role of Waste Banks in Advancing Waste Management and Circular Economy in Indonesia: A Focus on SDG 17
3rd Place, Unaisa Nayefa Rambe
Waste Banks as Catalysts for SDG 12: Building Indonesia’s Circular Economy
