Sirsak at Web Summit Qatar 2026: Post-Consumer Intelligence Infrastructure in Middle East Regions

Participating alongside emerging innovators from Southeast Asia and the Middle East, Sirsak took the technology-driven solutions to the global stage at the Qatar Investment Authority booth at Web Summit Qatar 2026. The event created a powerful platform for cross-region collaboration and knowledge exchange in advancing technology to accelerate sustainable waste management.

The Importance of Digital Infrastructure for Post-Consumption Waste Management

During the event, Sirsak participated in the UTOPIA Startup Showcase. The session provided an opportunity to present our company, technology, and long-term vision to a global audience of investors, industry leaders, and international media. Through this showcase, Sirsak highlighted how our innovations address some of the most pressing challenges in waste management and circular economy development.

In Indonesia, billions of packages circulate in the market every day, yet 3.12 million tons of plastic waste remain unrecovered annually. One of the key drivers of this limited waste recovery rate is the limited visibility that companies have over the post-consumption packaging waste. Without clear data, it becomes difficult to track a product's after life and design effective waste recovery strategies. Companies can significantly improve recovery rates and close the gap on post-consumer waste by building proper infrastructure and implementing an integrated, traceable system across the value chain.

Post-consumption waste management can no longer remain a blind spot for businesses, especially as the Indonesian government requires producers to reduce 30% of their packaging waste by 2029. A similar shift is happening in the Middle East regions. The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is actively advancing plastic waste management strategies. With specific targets varying by country, the regions raise the recycling rate goals to manage 40% of the plastic waste through advanced systems.

Optimizing Business Strategy with Innovative Waste Data

Southeast Asia and the Middle East have similar goals in advancing the waste management system. This made Sirsak take the spotlight on our digital waste management infrastructure as the center of the discussion during the UTOPIA Startup Showcase session. Sirsak highlighted SPOP (Sirsak Point of Purchase), a digital system to transform the manual waste collection process into traceable workflows.

SPOP enables consumers, waste banks, aggregators, recyclers, and producers to record transactions using integrated digital scales and automated data systems. This ensures accurate tracking of waste, improves operational efficiency, and provides reliable data to support Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) reporting and compliance.

In addition to SPOP, Sirsak also introduced SirCle (Sirsak Recycle), an innovative reverse vending machine designed to encourage responsible disposal at the consumer level while generating fully traceable data for businesses. Every deposit is digitally recorded, transforming everyday recycling actions into valuable post-consumer intelligence. This data enables companies to better understand consumer behavior and the waste management chain, strengthen transparency, and develop more informed and effective EPR strategies.

SEA-ME Collaboration for Integrated Waste Management Technology

Many growing regions face structurally similar challenges: the rise of consumption, limited data visibility, and evolving regulatory requirements. Sirsak's innovation to accelerate end-to-end post-consumer digital infrastructure through SPOP and SirCle demonstrates that locally built innovation can offer customizable solutions for other regions navigating similar circular transitions in waste management.

Web Summit Qatar 2026 became the platform for Sirsak to showcase our solutions and connect with potential partners and investors seeking scalable, data-driven waste solutions. Sirsak is grateful for UTOPIA, who invited Sirsak to the Startup Showcase. The session sparked discussions on how Sirsak solutions can be implemented across different geographies, opening the door for collaboration between Southeast Asia and the Middle East. We are also thankful to the Qatar Investment Authority for the opportunity to share Sirsak's vision and innovations through an exclusive interview during the event.

As Sirsak continues to expand SPOP and SirCle's reach, we remain committed to building infrastructure that provides seamless traceability and resonates better with global markets.
